IDK about Reddit, but they also address this in the pinned comment of the YouTube video at the top of the page. Basically, they want to have custom characters eventually, but it won't be at launch. Other custom files, like backgrounds and items, should be available before custom characters are, though.

Are there going to be cross-examinations? It's not stated anywhere on the page and I didn't see anything like that in the reveal trailer
Are there any plans to add the ability to use custom assets or will there only be support official ones?
As said in their reddit post, custom characters, evidence etc will be an ability to use.
